[OS X] X protocol error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) on protocol request 38

Howdy,

After my switch to Tiger, I would often have trouble with X11
windows crashing when forwarded across SSH. If I clicked on the
window, or dragged it, it would vanish, and the error message "X
protocol error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) on protocol
request 38" would get printed in the terminal window. I have just
figured out how to avoid this, although I'm not sure I understand the
security implications.

Long about version 3.8 of OpenSSH (which is what OS X uses), a new
switch was added: "-Y" from the command line, or "ForwardX11Trusted
yes" as a .ssh/config directive. If you use this, the unstable X11
forwarding problem will go away. Tracking down the extent to which
this compromises my X11 security is not something I care to engage in
at the moment; anyone who understands this, or figures it all out is
encouraged to send mail to osx at tazman.princeton.edu

	Thanks,

		Andy
