I can't help with this; I'm using octave from fink which is still at  
version 2.1.73.  According to the octcdf web page, you need to have  
octave version 2.9.7 or better.

I might be able to help diagnose your problem if you post more  
details.  Why do you think the netcdf version is causing trouble?   
What version do you have installed? When I do "fink list netcdf", it  
tells me I'm using version 3.6.1-1003.
